WiFi Companion: public Wi-Fi places layer ========================================== The Wi-Fi places shown on this website's live map are derived from OpenStreetMap. Data © OpenStreetMap contributors. https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright This derived database is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0: https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/ Method (how the database was made from OpenStreetMap) 1. Query the OpenStreetMap planet through QLever (https://qlever.dev/api/osm-planet) for every node, way and relation whose internet_access tag includes wlan or yes, taking the centroid of ways and relations, with name, amenity, shop, tourism, internet_access:fee, internet_access:ssid, access and internet_access:access. 2. Withhold places whose access or internet_access:access is private, no, members, permit, staff or students. 3. Keep: OpenStreetMap id, category (amenity, else "shop", else tourism), name, network name (internet_access:ssid) and an access code from internet_access:fee (no = free, customers = customers, yes = paid). 4. Cluster with supercluster and encode as Mapbox Vector Tiles (layer "hotspots"), grouped into the static packs under /data/tiles/. Listings are source observations from OpenStreetMap, not tested connections. City search uses GeoNames (https://www.geonames.org/), CC BY 4.0.
